Community Timebanks is an online platform that helps communities share time, skills and support through organised timebanks.
1. Introduction
These Terms of Use and Code of Conduct (“Terms”) govern your use of the Community Timebanks platform ("Platform"). By using the Platform, you agree to comply with these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.

2. Who these terms apply to
These Terms apply to:
- All users of the Platform, whether offering or receiving services within a timebank (“Members”).
- Timebank administrators (“Admins”) who manage and moderate timebanks.
- Individuals accessing the Platform through the website or mobile application.
3. Eligibility and account responsibilities
To use the Platform, you must:
- Be at least 16 years old.
- Provide accurate and truthful information.
- Keep your login credentials confidential.
- Take responsibility for all activity on your account.
- Comply with these Terms and all applicable laws.
Admins must additionally be at least 18 years old.
Notify us immediately if your account is accessed without authorisation.
4. Admin responsibilities
Admins are responsible for managing their timebanks and ensuring a safe and inclusive environment. Admin responsibilities include:
- Verifying new members where appropriate.
- Setting and enforcing timebank rules, including participation, privacy and moderation settings.
- Ensuring all members understand safety expectations.
- Intervening when inappropriate behaviour occurs.
- Maintaining confidentiality where required.
- Acting inclusively and fairly.
- Responding to questions or issues raised by members.
- Complying with these Terms and applicable laws.
Admins may assign additional admins for support and oversight.
5. Code of Conduct – all members
Members are expected to:
- Be respectful, kind and supportive.
- Treat all members equally, without discrimination.
- Respect privacy and personal boundaries.
- Take safety seriously and follow guidelines set by admins.
- Obtain consent before involving friends, family or third parties.
- Avoid offering or requesting cash, gifts or tips.
- Use shared items only with permission.
- Avoid risky or unsafe activities.
- Follow timebank rules and admin decisions.
6. Code of Conduct – admins
In addition to the member responsibilities, Admins must:
- Verify identities appropriately.
- Ensure safety and fairness within the timebank.
- Provide clear guidance on rules and expectations.
- Address inappropriate behaviour promptly.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy of member information.
- Avoid misuse of the Platform or manipulation of timebank processes.
- Seek support from Community Timebanks if challenges arise.
7. Acceptable Use of the Platform
You must use the Platform only for lawful, community-focused purposes. You must not:
- Share personal data without consent.
- Use the Platform for unauthorised commercial purposes.
- Impersonate others or create false identities.
- Harass, threaten or harm members.
- Post defamatory, offensive or illegal content.
- Upload malware or malicious code.
- Access or attempt to access systems without authorisation.
- Collect data from the Platform without permission.
- Infringe intellectual property rights.
- Suggest false endorsements or affiliations.
8. Content Standards
Content you submit must:
- Be accurate where factual.
- Reflect genuinely held opinions where subjective.
- Comply with UK law and applicable international laws.
Content must not:
- Defame or harass individuals or organisations.
- Contain obscene, offensive or discriminatory material.
- Promote violence or illegal activity.
- Infringe copyright, database rights or trademarks.
- Misrepresent identity or affiliation.
- Breach privacy or legal duties.
Admins may moderate content to ensure compliance with these standards.
9. Interactive features and moderation
Community Timebanks may include chatrooms, forums and activity feeds.
- Admins can moderate user activity within their timebanks.
- We are not obligated to monitor all content, but we may intervene if necessary.
- Users are responsible for their actions and interactions.
- The Platform is not for children under 16.
10. Intellectual Property
All intellectual property rights in the Platform and software belong to Made Open or its licensors. When you submit content:
- You retain ownership of your contributions.
- You grant Community Timebanks a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, display, reproduce and distribute your content within the Platform
- Other members may access and use your content within the Platform’s functionality.

12. Subscription and pricing
Community Timebanks operate on a subscription model:
- Base subscription: £500/year (UK) or approx US $675/year
- Optional add-ons available for enhanced features.
- Cancellation of a subscription will disable the timebank at the end of the billing period. Member accounts and accumulated time credits remain unaffected.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.
- We are not responsible for business or personal losses incurred through Platform use.
- Maximum liability is limited to £100.
14. Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts for breaches of these Terms. Upon termination:
- Users must stop accessing the Platform.
- Admins must disable associated timebank activities.
15. Events outside our control
We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, network failures, or legal restrictions.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms to reflect legal requirements, new features or system improvements. Notice of significant changes will be provided at least 30 days in advance. Continued use constitutes acceptance of updated Terms.
17. Governing law
These Terms are governed by English law, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
